Friday the 8th of June was the first day of our long weekend sale at work and in time honoured tradition we planned to stay open till 8pm... As some of you may know by now, Newcastle turned into the site of a natural disaster tonight due to massive flash floods and 100Km/H winds today. I knew it was going to be a bad day when on the way to work we went past a downed tree blocking half of a main rd…The afternoon started with a coal ship coming ashore at a local beach due to ~17M swells and gale force winds Closer to home, flash floods and wind caused chaos and all but submerged several suburbs…The storm water drains at the end of the street at work were overflowing and causing huge waves of water to crash over the main road and wash cars away… My 180 got caught in some flooding and had several inches of water in the footwells, but luckily the level didn’t get to the ECU Some pics of what was happening around our building, with overflowing drains and sinking cars... the last 2 were with nightvision: This next few were taken with my phone camera, so they arent very good quality, but they give an indication of the amount of dead cars at the side of the road... it was like this all the way home. I got home at 10pm... joy [/img]

I didn't realise how bad it was until I tried to go through Kotara... it took me a while to figure out how to get to higher ground (though where I considered parking at first was quite safe) - but there was no way I could get from where I was (Charlestown) back home (Hamilton), so the 180sx was left there overnight and my gf picked me up in her 4wd (Kia Sportage)... exciting times. I feel sorry for all the people (including a friend of mine) who had their houses and all its contents destroyed... but can't help but DUH at some people whose vehicles only got messed up because they tried to drive through deep water.
