I won't be driving at state drift round 3 tomorrow, after staying up till 3am this morning trying to find the problem with my engine i'm none the wiser. Oil pressure starts off lowish (35-40psi on cold start) and over the course of a minute or so drops to 0....not good. I've pulled everything apart looking for the problem but to no avail... Someone on IDA said i could borrow their car but i'm not sure if they are just kidding, i'm not so sure i'd like sliding someone elses car anyways hehe, get worried about crashing it, but given the choice i couldn't say no though...

So your going to drive someone else's car? I hope its an AE86 so we can convert you and show you the light lol. Is the oil pressure guages functioning properly?? Sorry i have no idea about engines lol

I'd love to try drifting an AE86, of course i doubt anyone will lend me one for the day though. If i can borrow a car i can but I doubt anyone will be willing (i certainly wouldn't be freely lending my car to anyone to drift in hehe). Yeah the gauge appears to be correct, since the engine noise increases as the gauge pressure dips really low suggesting that it's accurate.

Just a few questions as directed from a friend who works at nissan, best to come in on a thursday night and have a chat to him if u still havent got anywhere by then but untill then; Did u check conrod and crank bearing clearences with plastiguage when reassembling the engine? Did you disconnect and reconnect the oil pump seal properly? What oil are u running in it now? It sounds very much like the oil is thinning out when it warms up, letting it escape out of a larger than normal opening somewhere. Crank or block cracked would also casue this Is the oil pressure guage mechanical or electrical? mechanical are like never wrong, but electrical could be. I have not much of an idea, and these were mostly comments and suggestions from a friend at nissan, if u wanna chat to him then pm me and ill give u his number. Chris

Did u check conrod and crank bearing clearences with plastiguage when reassembling the engine? Didn't use plastigauge, the manual lists it as the second best way to do it (for some reason) just measured them with micrometer, however it'll be one thing i check if i strip the motor down again. Did you disconnect and reconnect the oil pump seal properly? Yup, twice now, also checked the pump clearances twice and checked the oil pressure regulator (which seems to be fine but has two springs in it, which i'm not sure is standard but certainly wouldn't make the pressure lower than standard) What oil are u running in it now? It sounds very much like the oil is thinning out when it warms up, letting it escape out of a larger than normal opening somewhere. Crank or block cracked would also casue this Oil is pretty thing (5w30) but is within spec for the temperature around here (ie about -15 tp 30 degrees, i'll run somthing thicker for track in future tho), a leak somewhere sounds like somthing to look for but again only with the engine stripped, the crank has been checked to. Is the oil pressure guage mechanical or electrical? mechanical are like never wrong, but electrical could be. Yeah, the gauge was thought about but the audible increase in mechanical noise as the pressure drops below 5psi on the gauge would indicate that it's reading just fine. I'll see what i can find and might have a chat with your mate if i can't find anything. In the meantime i'd like to find a SR20DE bare motor in good nick to turbo, mmmm high comp turbo

Oh yeah and the borrowed 180sx was interesting. Points to note were: More rear grip (probably cos of less camber, although i was drifting on 235s as well, i usually use 225s on the gazelle but will be using 235s in future), i was more used to having to catch the tail as it whipped back after each corner, the aftermarket LSD might have helped here to? Slower steering response, probably cos i've dialed in miles of castor on the gazelle with custom castor rods (180sx had castor rods but not much adjustment in em) Less power (less engine mods) I feel it could have done with some more castor All in all a nice enough car to drive but i actually prefer the snappier gazelle to drive, no reason to rush out for an S13 chassis they feel about 80% the same anyways (probably even more so when the mods are very similar). Unfortunetly i had about 20 minutes on the track before the 180sx's alternator died and i was out for the day...i spent all my time driving to sydney to get an alternator in another car and bringing that back, in the end i only got to watch the top 4 battle Anyways here are some pics from the morning when i was coming to grips with the car and the wet and slippery track.

Yeah i'd love to, someone lend me one Engine doesn't matter (hey a AE86 couldn't pull the skin off a custard even with a 4AGE) but as long as it has decent suspension and an LSD i'd love to give one a shot
