another thing is that the intake and exhaust on a j series motor is opposite to the rb series motor.

Just for reference if you upgrading to a boosted engine then you need to multiply the cars body weight by 2.5 to get the legal engineerable engine capacity.
So as an assumption a 180sx weights 1150kgs (total guess) so the biggest engine you can have is a 2875cc.
Hachi miss the 13b turbo and 2490cc1jzgte (total guess), weighing in at 930 x 2.5 = 2325.
