could be a number of things.. but start simple n check all your cooler plumbing for a leak that could cause your air flow signal 2 b wrong, then mayby the air flow sensor its self make sure its pluged in and isnt stuffed...if its a constant miss its probly a coilpack they r pritty commn for stuffing up on the ca... if you have pumped the boost up it could be hitting the boost cut but that dosnt explane poor idle dont think there is 2 much that can go wrong with the old ca they seem 2 be pritty good good luck mate let us know how u go with it...

Sounds like something is dirty. Clean the AFM and anything else within the system that you can get cleaned. If that doesn't fix it, check the cat isn't screwed and choking the system (though I don't think that'd show itself like this, but I'm no mechanic, not by a long shot, heh)

Are you talking about a catalatic converter (CAT).

Yeah, the CAT... I've heard of them being stuffed before and screwing with people's engines, because the exhaust gases can't get out, so it builds up pressure.
Might not be it, but it's something to check, anyway.

Smashed cats usually cause your turbo to stay at 3-4 pounds. Id probably not worry about looking at that.
The first thing id reccommend is to check the main connection for your crank angle sensor (the plug is really shizzle and can come loose after years of vibration). The CA i had did the exact same thing and it was due to this. If thats not the problem change the plugs and check your coils for spark. If they dont spark its either a dead coil or faulty ignition module. They have a tendency to burn out on CAs from what ive heard (i have an old spare module somewhere if you need one).
Basically check anything electrical. With engines of that age, stuff starts to detereorate and oxidize. My CA had so many electrical issues and most of those were due to problems in harness plugs in the engine bay.
But check the more simple things first and save yourself time and money.
