well its finally happened. while doing a short burst on the freeway on satdy morning, power was lost and i had to pull over. couldnt get it to start again so 4 hrs later after organising a car n trailor, did a compression test and the results were, 90 psi rear rotor and 0 psi front So looks like my options are rebuild, replacement import motor, or selling. before i make my decision id like sum input on wat prices i should be expecting if... 1. i take the chance of rebuilding the engine myself. ie how much for just new seals n shizzle 2. i just give the block to sumone to rebuild it for me 3. i drop the whole car off to say rx eng for them to do it for me Also if i could get some enlightenment on wat a rebuild consists of would be appreciated. Could i be lucky enuff to just have to replace the apex seals? thanks in advanced Vin

lol, im thinking mayb the compression test might not have been done properly. Ill recheck a few things just to double check. Im hoping 0 psi is not the case cause it seems a bit weird.
fingers crossed.

Yeah, jarrod's the man to ask about cost etc. But from what ive seen him doing, u will need at least all new seals, not cheap from mazda, but essential. And depending on what damage was done by the cracked seal u may need need new rotors or housings.. only determinable after u pull the engine apart though. Personally id say stay give it to someone that knows what there doing, 1 small mistake means the engine wont run.. ask nidi about this. Its gotta be done perfectly. So jarrod or rx... rx are busy for 2 months from what ive heard. Good luck with it, but it sucks to hear another one has broken

oohh that suks 2 hear from memory your car seemd 2 be running a fair bit of boost! i think it was spiking a bit wen u took me for a drive this could be the culprit, as we are getting cooler nights/mornings the boost likes 2 creep up that little bit and this time it was probably 2much 4 the little wankel..... if u pull the engine out i cn rebuild it for ya, its a bit hard 2 tell how much it will cost until we strip it down 2 c the how damaged it is but most my rebuilds cost around 1000 to 1500 mark an import engine will cost u about 1300,its a gamble though i know of sum lasting 5 years n still going strong and i also have herd of sume blowing up in the driveway on the way out 4 the first test drive.... mine lasted 4 days rx will do the best job in newy but expect them 2 have your car 4 around 6months and a bill in the 3000 to 4000k mark there is a price 2 pay for the best work!!

hey jarrod,
Yea if i were to guess ... it would be i was running too much boost. I guess the engine felt soo strong up until the event that it didnt worry me.
1000-1500 as a rough estimate is prolly the best news ive had. If your up for it, id like to give it to u to rebuild. The boys on here and Dan (TUB-80J) have given you the wraps when it comes to rebuilds. It probaly wont be for a couple months tho...got a few things to concentrate on b4 i have the time to pull the motor out.
cheers Vin
